Volkswagen Revamping the VW Logo

by Susan Gunelius on July 28th, 2007

volkswagen.jpgVolkwswagen has one of the most recognizable logos in the world, but rumor has it the man in charge at Volkswagen, Martin Winterkorn, has called for a tune up of the dated logo.  The change won’t affect the position of the VW logo on the car grill, but it will affect the logo’s appearance.

Speculation is the new logo will get bigger (surprise) and appear more 3-dimensional on the grill with the VW letters standing out more significantly from the ring that surrounds them.  No word on whether or not the change will affect the logo in print or other forms.

What do you think?  The revamp seems minimal, and it probably is a good time to modernize the logo a bit.  Do you like the idea of the VW logo changing?  Will it have an effect on the Volkswagen brand?

I don’t think changing the logo will cause Volkswagon to lose any sales. It might be good to see a new logo. We’ll have to wait and see.

I’m also looking forward to seeing the new VW logo, Carol. Sounds like the modifications will be minor enough that they should just enhance the existing icon rather than completely changing it.

I’m waiting to hear if the change will apply to all formats the logo is used in or if it’s just going to affect the icon on the cars themselves. If anyone hears the plan, please post and let us know.

I think anything VW does is usually smart. I always want one when I see a commercial. Either I’m gullible or their marketing rocks. I hope I’m not gullible though. On a car note there’s some new car commercial that is terrifying. (Lord I hope it’s not VW — which would blow my whole they’re smart deal, but I don’t think it is). I would not buy a car based on these commercials. It’s driving me nuts that I can’t think of the brand. The commercial looks like those scary movies The Grudge and The Ring. Weird movements and stuff? A girl walking weird in a wasteland? Have you seen it? It’s a scary way to sell a car. If I see it I’ll come back.

I’ll have to keep an eye out for that strange commercial! I haven’t seen it yet.

Mercury mariner hybrid — I don’t know if I spelled it correctly. But I just saw the commercial during a show. That’s the one. There are two that I’ve seen and both are frightening. My ex says so too. Now you can check it out
    But be afraid… spooky!

P.S I don’t think Disney should have done the wine thing. But Disney does much IMO that’s questionable.
    Have a good week :)

Have you seen the new commercials for the Touareg 2? Great product placement and introduction vehicle (pardon the pun).
