The least 5 Innovative Companies
…at least in BusinessWeek’s countdown; I’m not speaking of worldwide brand. So relax, if you work, are a customer or just a fan of one of these brands they still rank above all the rest of companies who didn’t even made it to the list. These are numbers 46-50:
46. Merck. This worldwide brand has been under some “lack of innovation” fire lately. From what I’ve read and researched on it, it’s not that they have stopped researching, it’s rather an event of comparison. When being compared to other companies in the industry they lag behind.
47. News Corporation. First and foremos I’d like to say I’ve never liked their branding choices; their name is rather bland and un-original; not a good thing for a brand. Although with the way they’ve managed their sub-brands (within this mother brand), I can understand why they’ve managed it like that.
48. McDonald’s. The time when every new happy meal was a worldwide celebrated event is long gone. And McDonald’s has been striving ever since to keep up with more demanding customers, healthier menus, cost reduction, and fierce competition. They just aren’t ranking up top anymore. Time for a-change.
49. LG Electronics. With a lower innovation spend than that from other big competitors, LG has launched several not so popular or profitable products. The good side of it, lately they have been improving in getting new products that consumers actually want. One step at a time, LG…
50. Exxonmobil. Lastly, in this countdown, ranks Exxonmobil. This huge oil-and derivate company that even having some of the largest profits in the industry (and world), they keep on working under traditional management, and have contributed little to the innovation pool.
We can’t say these companies are bad or not trying enough, because they indeed are. They are striving to get up in the list, and to offer new and better products for their customers. Perhaps the most common way in which they mess it up (at least from what I’ve seen), is by not really researching and reading consumers minds. A company needs to offer products that while being new and perhaps out-of-the box innovations, they can offer something good and worthy for the customers. End of my point.
