Branding a Font: Linotype Celebrates Helvetica’s 50th Anniversary
What’s your favorite font? If it’s Helvetica, you’re in luck because Helvetica is celebrating its 50th anniversary. To promote Helvetica’s anniversary, Linotype invited designers around the world to enter their Helvetica NOW poster design contest.
I wish I heard about this contest earlier, but I just read about it today on David Airey’s design blog. More than 1,000 posters were submitted to the contest and you can check them out and vote for the winner on Linotype’s website.
It just goes to show, you can brand anything, and with effective promotion and consistent marketing (and what’s more consistent than a font?), that brand can grow and grow - and maybe even become a household word.

Type is fun… not always part of freelance writing, but playing with type can be inspiriting or a nice break from writing
