Arrogant Bastard Ale - A Clear Brand Message

by Susan Gunelius on March 25th, 2008

Sometimes a product’s brand name and logo so perfectly communicates the brand’s image and message that there is really nothing else I can add. Case in point - Arrogant Bastard Ale. Thanks to The Dieline for bringing this one to my attention. Love it! Feel free to discuss.

I’d say this falls into the category of “Death” cigarettes. For me though, the question is whether the name should be interpreted as the person or people who make the beer, or the target market…

In response to BuzzWolf, I have always pictured brands as the way one feels about a product. With beer, you normally purchase on price, or by the way it makes you feel. People who would consume this brand probably feel a certain way based on the clear brand message.

My beer-loving husband will cringe but I often choose a beer based on its name… the Bishop’s Finger, Victory Hop Devil.

The reality is that beer makers - esp small companies - have to rely on catchy names because most of us know so little about the breweries.

I certainly hope the brand reflects the beer rather than the drinker, because I really want one of these now.
